A few things to consider before making a decision about your newborn photographer

Style is always a big thing to consider when looking to book your newborn photographer! I have a very neutral style. I do have stacks of props you can choose from, I like to limit the amount used in each shot! I believe that less is more when capturing your newest bundle. I like to accent baby, while still keeping the focus on him/her, after all that is the reason you’re investing in newborn photography!

While we are on the topic of props and style, we need to keep in mind the types of products being used on your tiny newborn. As mom and dad you know how delicate and fresh a newborns skin is, and how it can so easily be irritated, I strive to offer all of my blankets washed in free & clear detergent.

Another thing to consider is whether you want your photographer to travel to you, or if you would rather travel to their studio. At this time- All of my sessions are done in my home studio.  While I know sometimes leaving the house with a brand new baby, and not quite in the swing of things can be rather trying- I have found through the past few years of photographing the newest member of my clients families, that they would much rather not have to worry about cleaning up their home, and setting up an adequate space for all of the bulky things used to best photograph your baby- They would much rather pack up the diaper bag and head to my studio! If you are worried about bringing a sibling please don’t be! They are more than welcome to attend the session!

The most important thing to think about is safety! I cannot stress to you how important it is to hire someone who knows what they are doing. Babies aren’t props, they are real, and they are fragile. Many shots you see done, are composites. The head in hands pose you see where it appears that baby is holding up his/her head, baby is not really baby holding up his or her head. This is a shot that most photographers need an assistant to preform. Ask questions, you have the right to know what will be happening during your babies session!

Its easy to want to spend $50 and get all the images, but quality and most of all safety of  newborn photography really is an investment! Someone who charges $50 can’t afford to hire an assistant (who is also skilled in newborn safety)!

I know that quality newborn photography is an investment, I am happy to work out payment plans with my clients,

I know I’m not the perfect fit for everyone, just make sure to look for a photographer that puts as much passion into your session as you do, and who has your babies safety as their number one priority!
